If I switch over and play a cruiser or battleship, the ranges I will use AP need to be adjusted because their AP remains effective for longer ranges than USN destroyer AP. ![]() At 7km or less I start to aim for the bow, upper hull, and/or super structure on battleships and the citadel locations on cruisers. Under 8km, I begin thinking about switching over to AP on broadside targets if I can get superstructure hits. AP use situations can be specific to the ship, ship class, and the caliber of the AP you are using. You will have to consider whether your shells can overmatch their armor, the maximum range your AP can be effective, where in their armor scheme can your shells be effective, etc. For instance, I play USN DDs quite often. Generally speaking if you have a broadside target, they are a potential candidate for AP no matter what class they are or what class you are.
